“We have to consciously study how to be tender with each other, until it becomes a habit”

— Audre Lorde

About Field Notes

This is a newsletter for critical thinking and research afterthoughts, for the everyday provocateur and curious mind. Read about society, culture and what it means to be human—without the confusion of an academic article, or the headaches of social media. Find essays about observation and intentional ways of being in the modern world, and, glimpse into an anthropologist’s field notes.

About the Anthropologist

Samantha is an Australian social researcher roaming far and wide, with a home base on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country (Canberra Region, ACT). With over 12 years’ experience studying wellbeing in academia and social policy, Samantha’s work is multi-disciplinary. Often with a camera at hand and notebooks in her pockets, she explores the relationships between dialogue, identity and culture—advocating for connected communities and care practice. Trained in ethnography and deep listening, her work honours the ways in which all places and all people are storied.
